Abstract

The study of heavy minerals in Zubair sediments has been carried out with a view to elucidate their distribution, relative abundance, nature, behavior, and correlations, the separated heavy minerals show the presence of tourmaline, zircon rutile opaques (illmenite, magnetite, and pyrite.
Different types of tourmaline have been recognized. The heavy mineral assemblages in the Zubair formation show that they have been derived from older sedimentary rocks, granitic plutons and pegmatitic veins.
