Abstract

The seismicity of the area bounded by the longitude (39 – 48) E and latitude (29 – 34) N, for the period from (1980 – 2016) is considered to be more than 2700
events were detected with magnitude range (1.0 – 6.0) degree. The area shows different seismic activity ranging from low seismic activity at southwestern Iraq to
moderate and high at eastern and southeastern parts. The seismicity data are correlated with tectonic elements, good correlation is found between them especially in, Iraq-Iran boundaries. It is found some earthquake events lay along or close to the faults or lineaments and some lineaments intersections. Fault plane solutions for 46 events are analyzed and supported by many researchers' solutions. It shows reverse strike slip and normal faulting along planes with NW – SE.
