This research included an engineering study of the Quaternary sediments at five selected sites within Wadi Al-Ubayidh, which is located southwest of Karbala Governorate in the central part of Iraq. Three samples were collected from each site. This study aims to obtain materials that meet the requirements of international and Iraqi specifications, so a qualitative evaluation of the sub-base is required. Many tests were conducted, including physical tests such as grain size test, modified Proctor pressure test, abrasion ratio test, and Atterberg limit test, in addition to chemical tests. The results of these physical tests showed that there are two types of sub-base, which are class A and class B. The plasticity values are within the specification limits, the maximum dry density for all sites has high and acceptable values. The mechanical corrosion values ranged between Strong and Middle. The chemical results showed that the sub-base material were free of undesired chemicals. Thus, comparing of the obtained results of the tests with the international specifications ensured that the sub-base can be used for different engineering projects.
