Aim and scope
The Iraqi Geological Journal (IGJ) is an open access, peer-reviewed scientific and indexed journal, issued twice a year by the publisher, the Union of Iraqi Geologists (UIG). It was founded in 1968 as the Journal of the Geological Society of Iraq. Later, in 1990, it was nominated by the Iraqi Geological Journal. The journal's scope is concerned with original, unpublished scientific papers covering all branches of geology and related topics. Although the IGJ is particularly interested in publishing local studies that have conclusions of interest, this publication is expanding its coverage to an international scope. Coverage includes such topics as water resources (hydrology and hydrogeology), petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry, ore deposits, petroleum geology, tectonics, structure, paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, geophysics, geotechnics, engineering geology, and environmental sciences. It publishes biyearly with twelve sections of rigorous and original contributions. It is indexed by Scopus and has continued since 2016, with a CiteScore of https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100909458. The journal accepts manuscripts submitted in the English Language only. The authors must ensure that the article has not been published or submitted anywhere else in any format. There are no ethical concerns with the content or data collection. All manuscripts are reviewed by at least two referees, who are known scholars in their fields.
