Abstract

A great portion of the world’s oil reserves is contained in carbonate reservoirs, which play an important part in oil exploration and makes a huge contribution to oil production worldwide. This study involves the determination of original oil in place (OOIP) in the Mauddud Formation/Badra oil Field (South of Iraq) by using Petrel software. The reservoir contains huge hydrocarbon resource in basement source rock and presents a unique geological characterization, reasonable heterogeneity, therefore, depict study has been conducted to build a reservoir model by using Eclipse-100 software to predicted feasibility of enhancing the production and maintaining the pressure. Simulation model was used to build a reservoir model by many patterns of injection and water injection rate to predict of water movement (water breakthrough) into formation and maintain the reservoir pressure.

The scope of the study will mainly focus on water injection pattern and improvement of reservoir pressure in main production area. There are two cases run concerning the water injection patterns.

Finally and according to the result of simulation model the two different patterns (Staggered Line Pattern, and Peripheral Water Injector Pattern) are identified in the Mauddud Formation while these cases were predicted of water injection direction to prevent oil movement to Iranian side.
